Construction News

Dear Crenshaw/LAX Transit Project area neighbors,

In addition to the overhead system that will power trains, our line will also use supplementary power sources for stations and systems. Some of these supplemental sources look like big boxes and are called auxiliary power buildings. Last week a power building was installed at Crenshaw Bl and 60th St, just south of our Hyde Park Station. This building will help provide supplementary power for the line's stations and general operations. The installation of an auxiliary power building requires precision placement over its base, allowing it to be only a few centimeters off, our hard-working crews did that! Enjoy some photos of the process.

Community Voices

At the 2019 Taste of Soul Festival we asked community members what they hoped for the future line and and the role that it will play in the community. Those community portraits and voices will be turned into art banners and placed at construction fencing sites along the project corridor. Keep an eye out for these community voices and faces soon! You might see some familiar faces along the Crenshaw/LAX Transit Project alignment!

At our booth, Metro would like you to rank street improvements you want to see, like new trees and landscaping, improved crossings and sidewalks, places to sit, and better bus stops. We will be giving away free TAP cards and other prizes to participants who share their feedback! Your input will help inform Metro’s Expo/Crenshaw First/Last Mile Plan.

What is the Expo/Crenshaw First/Last Mile Plan?
The Expo/Crenshaw First/Last Mile Plan looks at ways to improve public streets within 1/4 mile (about 3 blocks) from the Exposition Boulevard and Crenshaw Boulevard intersection. The goal is to enhance the experience for people walking, biking or rolling to the future Expo/Crenshaw Station, part of the new Crenshaw/LAX Transit Project. Metro wants to hear from those who live, work, or take transit in the area.

What is the Crenshaw/LAX Transit Project?
The Crenshaw/LAX Transit Project will create a new 8.5-mile light rail line between the existing Metro Expo Line at Crenshaw and Exposition Boulevards, and the Green Line. The line will serve the cities of Los Angeles, Inglewood, El Segundo and portions of unincorporated Los Angeles County.
